DataStart: The Southern Startup Internship Program in Data Science
DataStart provides graduate students from the *South region the opportunity to work with host data-related startup companies on data-intensive business challenges important to the company and relevant to the student’s course of study. Eligible graduate students will be paid for their work through a grant to the startup company, and it is up to the students to identify their proposed host company. PEPI: The Program to Empower Partnerships with Industry
PEPI supports early career (pre-tenure) faculty members and postdocs, from the 16 *states that comprise the South Big Data Regional Innovation Hub (South BD Hub). Summer exchange visits will be sponsored to visit and work with data-related industry partners. Applicants can apply with our without an identified industry partner. If without, the South BD Hub will attempt to provide matchmaking services for strong proposals. Our new partner, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), has expressed their interest in working with early career professionals on topics of mutual interest through the South BD Hub PEPI program. For questions or inquiries regarding proposed topics with UHC, contact Dr. Phil Hendrix phil.hendrix@immr.org. Applicants will submit their applications and supporting materials through the South Big Data Hub PEPI program. (A UHC announcement contains this opportunity and another–the UHC Data Science Fellows program.)

*The programs above are open to graduate students, postdocs, or faculty in good standing at accredited universities in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Applicants from all academic disciplines and domains are welcome to participate. Students are responsible for identifying a company willing to serve as host for their internship.
