Research Data Management Workshop #6: Data Storage

Workshop Summary:

Many funders expect researchers to develop approaches and resources for data management and stewardship (which also includes data storage and retention of an array of data types). Responsible conduct for research data management include addressing (1) provenance, (2) recordkeeping, (3) organization of data, (4) storage of data, (5) reporting of research data and results, (6) sharing and access, (7) institutional policies, and (8) data management standard operating procedures. The workshop will include data from a 2017 survey of data management practices at UF. Participants will be introduced to the data storage options at UF while understanding the roles of responsibilities of sustainable data stewardship.

Course contents:

In this workshop, participants will learn:

• What are the data storage options available for researchers at UF?
• How UF IRM toolkit can assist with data storage risk assessments?
• How to include records management in data management and storage plan?
• How to prepare data for long-term storage?
• Why is it best to store data in three different locations?

Pre-requisite knowledge: Participants must have at least basic IT skills
